Coming up for air
Just checking in briefly midway through a crazy seven days of concert-going. I’ve no idea how or when I am going to be able to write up all these gigs but I’ll do my best. Taking a break today, getting some much needed sleep and reminding Julie who I am.
For anyone that might happen to read this that lives near enough to London here’s a further gig tomorrow evening that I haven’t seen mentioned much. Its important that these “smaller” gigs still get the support they need as the Yoshihides, Rowes, Dorners, Korbers, Malfattis and Lehns of this world pass through town.

I’ll be there. If I can find it. Its near Angel tube apparently.
For those not near London my apologies. Here’s a great free download for you though, Taku Unami’s Malignitat 2, seemingly the sequel to one of my very favourite CDs of last year. I’ve not played it as much as I’d liked to have done so far but my first impressions are very much the same vein as the first release, great stuff designed to confuse as much as to please.
On another note, the recent Confront release Resonant Spaces by John Butcher is really great; stunning stuff recorded at a variety of fantastic sites around Scotland as part of last year’s Resonant Spaces tour. Thats about the fifth solo sax disc I’ve enjoyed this year. What’s happening to me?!
More posts here soon I promise!

Where does all this anti-saxophone prejudice come from I wonder?
I really have to check out that Butcher disc…
I’m not really sure where it comes from Doug, but I’ve never really been much of a sax fan. I think in general it stems from my general dislike for jazz but I’m not sure. I just don’t really like the way saxophones sound.
Or at least I didnt…, if I think about it today there are many sax players that I like a lot, John Butcher, Seymour Wright, Bertrand Denzler, Jean-Luc Guionnet, Stephane Rives, Martin Küchen in his more abstract mode, and the list goes on. Maybe yeah its time to stop commenting like that when I find i like a sax disc but old habits die hard!
I saw JB play with Mark Wastell again last night and they were great, two musicians very much in command of their instruments playing well together. Methinks that after another few gigs they will be ready to record something.
Hi Richard, thanks for the plug!
Is Radu Malfatti in town too? I totally missed that one, where and when is he playing?
See you later!
No Radu didn’t play London David, only Huddersfield. Its been years since he played London though. he’s likely to be back in the UK in March, maybe someone can set something up for then.
Yes I’m just putting on my thermal undies for later. Churches in late November are always cold.
Ah, ok..
Thanks for the info about RF possible visit in March, that got me thinking.. Indeed someone should do it
