10 Things I realised this last week…

June 24, 2007

1. I rather like Béla Tarr’s films.
2. I don’t like sake, (at least not the cheap sake Julie and I picked up in the week)
3. I couldn’t ever write CD reviews to deadlines for a living.
4. You just can’t grill asparagus (Correction at Robert’s request: Asparagus refuses to let ME grill it :)
5. This blog (scarily) gets over 250 hits a week.
6. I have no idea why.
7.Some people just aren’t worth arguing with.
8. I could spend the rest of my life listening to classical music and still only ever scratch the surface.
9. Hedgehogs make quite extraordinary noises if you kick them by mistake in the dark, (sorry Mr Hedgehog…)
10. It can rain as much as it likes, country walks with hugs every half a mile are still great :)

Sorry, normal service resumed next post.

Nice to see you like Béla Tarr’s work, Richard.

Yeah J.K I caved into the pressure and picked up Werckmeister Harmonies, Damnation and Satantango on Friday (I never do anything by half…) So far I have watched the first two once and first impressions have been unsurprisingly great. Need a lot more time with them before I can say anything more than that though.

Good about Tarr, Richard (though I’ve only seen Werckmeister myself), but you’re dead wrong about asparagus.

Brian if you like I can fish the offending asparagus out of my kitchen waste bin and send it to you as proof if you like? It turned into a soggy mush in seconds….

those 250 hits probably come from about 20 people. they’re not unique IP addresses, are they?

Maybe you should rephrase that, as you (meaning Richard Pinnell) can’t grill asparagus. I do it all the time and have done so in the last few weeks. Brush it with olive oil and a pinch of salt. You can do it lengthwise on the grill (in which case do not trim the ends), but its easier with one of the vegetable grilling things. I usually just use tin foil myself. It works fantastically, if you do it right the asparagus is still fresh tasting but with that tang of the grill.

Hmm, well I ended up shallow frying in butter and a little garlic and that did the job nicely, so that’ll do me I think.;)

And Jon you can view the traffic yourself by clicking on the Visit count number. At least 40 different ISPs from 12 different countries today so far, but thats a lot more mad people reading this than I ever expected anyway.

    Sake, well, quality counts..
But I would agree that it’s an acquired taste. When acquired, the taste is wonderful.

    Grilled asparagus…yumm..
A recipe I learned from a Japanese grad student.
Take several stalks of asparagus, wrap each with a strip of bacon, line them up in rows of four or five and skewer, perpendicularly, with three thin wood or bamboo skewers. Grill each side until crispy. Eat….

And yes, it is impossible to argue with some people ( heh )

Oh boy I’m just counting the seconds until Robert makes a comment on the fact that someone suggested I wrap food in bacon before cooking it! ha!

Yeah I think its a cheap bottle of sake Doug. I am more of a whisky guy usually, so I know about acquired tastes, maybe me and sake just aren’t meant to be.

I love the way that when I post something completely drunk it gets all this interest… thats it forget the music drivel, ten posts a week of drunken lists from now on!!

(and noone has asked about that photo yet either… another piece of alcohol-fuelled creativity!)

I was gonna say, I like the photo. Now’s a good time to be checking out Béla Tarr (just watched Werckmeister & Damnation).

So, in preparation for the switch over to a new design in a week or two, I have been going back over old posts to retegorise them so they will work with the new site.

Stumbling across this one really made me smile though. I don’t think I have ever posted as drunk as I did on this occasion since… and it is interesting to see how many of these things I still stand by…

You can forget No.2 now as I enjoyed a glass of good sake a few weeks back…. No.3 is really amusing as I have begun to try doing this again, not for a living, but certainly to deadlines… Much experience later I still stand by No.4 no matter what anyone says… as for No.5 well, 250 visitors a week has risen to 200-250 a day… No.8 is as true as ever, and No.10 will never change…
