Sunday 20th MayMay 21, 2012
Unfortunately I don’t have a review in me tonight again. I have been working hard all day on three or four projects simultaneously, which probably wasn’t the best way to approach them, but then I was never any good at organising my creative life. I have polished off a couple of Wire reviews, part written something else, painted a picture intended for the poster of the Malfatti, Frey and co concert poster then destroyed it, began another version without the painting, cooked and ate a complicated dinner and worked on the coding of the new Cathnor downloads website while flicking in and out of a guide book to the Scottish Highlands. It feels good to be busy in a creative way, but something has to give, and tonight its writing here. I have been listening to a lot of music this weekend however. Alongside the CDs The Wire asked me to write about I have worked my way right through the new Tilbury/Smith Quartet recordings of Feldman, his Patterns in a Chromatic Field and Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, some three hours of music in total. It is, predictably, quite beautiful stuff. I’ve never really been able to write successfully about Feldman, so I’m not sure how a review of this one might pan out, but if I make it through the set again I’ll give it a go. So a better post tomorrow. For now, make sure you have this gig in your June diary. Tonight’s photo was taken this afternoon on a short walk to get a breath of fresh air. See I even fitted a walk in!
